Change of name advisory: chiangmaidays.com
I love Chiang Mai. If it offered somewhere to go windsurfing, I would move there now. The old city is a warren of temples, craft shops, restaurants and coffee houses. There is a pleasant, relaxed vibe; helped along by the helpful locals and the absence of the tattoo and beer gut brigade that descends on Pattaya. The surrounding countryside offers places I would be happy to call home. One day, the object of your belief system willing, we will move there.
Meantime I have to make do with an occasional visit. A couple of days in Chiang Mai; road trip; a day and a bit in Chiang Rai; and now we are home. She who must be obeyed has done much shopping, I have many photos, and the cats are very pleased to see us. But we still have visitors, so photos must wait until tomorrow.
In the meantime, amuse yourself with wondering what this is:

I spent a week in Chang Mai in late November and loved it, for pretty much the same reasons you describe, and its a hell of a lot cheaper than Phuket.
Try mountain biking, white water rafting and hiking, no the same as buzzing across the waves under the power of the wind but still challenging.

Looks suspiciously like something on fire to me.

Surely this is the fire you started to get warm and fend off the appalling 17 degrees night time temperatures?

Correct. Sadly it got a little out of hand. Full story tomorrow.

Hey Spike, looks to me like an out of control creation. What have you done about your/our friend Sompost?
Look forward to more pics and isn’t it about time you were out at the racetrack and seeing Khun Narin (I think that is her name)
Don’t get me wrong I like the horse pictures. I used to play polocrosse but the raceday pictures are nice as well

Is it a monk’s funeral pyre?

No

Are you sure?

In these troubled times, genuinej, how can we be sure about anything? So the answer would have to be: no.
