Having found gainful employment for herself, she who must obeyed has decided that I should join her on the great treadmill of life; and this morning she announced she had found a job for me.

“You like writing, and the Pattaya Times is looking for an editor”.

It is true, I do like writing, but if I am going to write or edit for money then I would like the money to be better than is usually paid by the local papers. Still, the advert offered “good pay” so maybe it was worthy of further investigation.

The owner is Drew Noyes and he certainly sounds like he would be an inspirational boss. Here are some of the things he says about himself:

Peoplepond: “Drew Noyes is one of the most credible, friendly, reassuring professional to make Thailand his home and he has helped literally thousands of foreign business people, home buyers and couples to be successful in Thailand”.

Linkedin: “Law Firm Managing Director, newspaper Publisher, Property Development CEO, Investment Expert, Visionary Entrepreneur”.

I rather fancy working for a visionary entrepreneur; but then my googling came up with some rather disturbing offerings from journalist Andrew Drummond; all of which are an entertaining read but are not very complimentary about Mr. Noyes.

Frankly, I was shocked. Here was “one of the most credible, friendly, reassuring professional” (sic) being mauled on-line by a mere journalist. If was the editor of Pattaya Times then I would be already knocking up a “Shock! Horror! Probe!” type headline. But no need, because Mr. Noyes is already on the case:

“The Supreme Commander of Thailand’s most powerful police division, the Crime Suppression Police, supported the police order the shut down of a vicious blog website in Thailand and the arrest of the person responsible during a meeting with Drew Noyes, Managing Director of PAPPA Co., Ltd. Law Office. Many Thai police were summoned to fast action. Following several postings of lies and fabrications about a prominent person in Thailand a small, blog website based in Bangkok is now the focus of a Thai police investigation at the highest level.”

Stirred to my very loins by Mr. Noyes’s fighting spirit, I decide that I will apply for the post of editor. But then I read yet another scurrilous piece which seems to indicate that most of the “news” in the Pattaya Times has been copied without permission or credit from other sources. No doubt this will also be proved to be “lies and fabrications” by the diligent Thai police investigation; but until that is proved to be the case then I think I will steer clear.

She would must be obeyed’s search for a job for me continues. I am laying low and hoping she doesn’t find one.
