An urgent SMS from she who must be obeyed. “Is someone who talks over something (like a football match) called a voice over person or a commentator?”
I send the only response possible: “Someone who talks over something is known as a wife; but I think the word you are looking for is “commentator”.
No response. I can expect a verbal kicking later.

Unfortunately he probably got off scot-free. Thais don’t do irony very well and if you really straight-face it you can get away with a bit of gentle piss-taking, nothing serious, quite often. I’m sure that had the War Department caught the full import of my remarks on gecko shit, lottery tickets and the amount of the net loss I would have been hit (deservedly) with a shoe. As it was a lot of hillarity resulted and all was well.

SWMBO had a conversation with me about irony some time ago; and for months after that she would ask “was that you being ironical?” Sometimes it was.
We indulge in mutual teasing, me more than her to be honest; but it is never vindictive and all part of a healthy relationship. That’s what I say anyway.
