Every year there is an event on the outskirts of Pattaya called Wonderfruit. I had never been, because it was prohibitively expensive and appeared to be attended by the type of people who claim to be travellers, when they are in fact just tourists who haven’t washed their hair for a month and are wearing their mum’s old clothes.
But in the interests of research and photos, we went along this year; having paid more than 5,000 baht for a weekend ticket. If indeed you haven’t washed for a month and are into the sort of things on offer, you can be entertained 24 hours a day for the entire weekend; but if you are an old fart like me then a few hours is more than enough.
The event spreads itself across several rai with numerous structures erected:
And each structure provides one of three succors:
3. Woo woo
Unlike Glastonbury, the headline acts are not likely to be people you have actually heard of; but the music was OK to my jaundiced ears, being a mixture of live performances and DJ sets.
As for food, there were the usual stalls selling the usual Thai “delicacies”; although we did manage to find some imported oysters which were rather fine, for a price.
And then there was the woo woo, and plenty of it. All manner of self improvement sessions, none of which interested me, apart from the “yolo orgasm”, but she who must be obeyed would not let me have one.
Among all of this there were impromptu performances and no end of interesting people to look at:
The 2018 event has already been announced and you can buy tickets here. I think once was enough for me.
