SOMPOST steals content

January 14, 2010 / Posted by: Spike / Category: Life

Pete is a very fine fellow. Firstly, because he said good things about this site, and I can never have enough of that. And secondly, he pointed out that some complete bastards are hijacking all my posts and sticking them on another site.

The evil empire is located here.

and if you scroll down to “most recent articles”, things may look familiar, but without the elegant enlargement of photos when you click on them, and no chance for you to make derisory comments.

If you happen to be reading this on Sompost, then please avoid the recycled rubbish and come to:
http://www.pattayadays.com/
for the original experience.

A visit to whois.net has given me an email address and telephone number. Armed with this information, I need to ponder what suitable actions I can take. Suggestions welcome, as annoying as possible.

Interesting. They do give you credit (but you need to look closely for the by line) and even provide a link back to here. Maybe they are marketing your stuff for you rather than stealing it.

  2. Britinbangkok Says:

    Hey,

Sompost is stealing all my blog content too (and to Camberley) it’s STEALING – on the net, you are not allowed to copy someone’s posts/articles/anything without their permission.

I’ve already reported Sompost to Google Adsense – which means, Google will close their account and it’s the ONLY reason Sompost steals this stuff, to make money from it – so, without an Adsense account, it’s not worth them having their site, IMO.

You might also want to report them to Google Adsense. :-)

  3. Jock Says:

did you ever get compensated by ‘The Times Of India’ for your Bollywood shot on Jomtiem Beach that was likewise knicked ?

  4. Lloyd Says:

Create a post with the domain registrants full details, he’ll soon learn theres nothing worse than having your personal details spread all over the web.

  5. Phuket Observer Says:

    Domain details are bogus.

There is no point in contacting these people. They know exactly what they are doing. After a site like this is banned from AdSense, etc. they just move on to another domain.

    Report to AdSense and HostingLotus:

While undoubtedly irritating, I have to agree with Camberley, though the derivation of the material could have been acknowledged a little more specifically.

Google News does something not too different every day; there is not one word of original content in what is no more or less than aggregation of the efforts of others.

Long live web-anarchy!! … mmm, webarchy, maybe I have coined a new word?

  7. Camberley Says:

“I have to agree with Camberley”
Bloody hell Billy! That’s a first.

  8. Spike Says:

Google news provides summaries and then links to original content.

Thanks Phuket Observer, I will do as you suggest. Plus I have another plan which will be implemented in due course.

  9. Wentworth Says:

    Do you feel violated?

  10. Spike Says:

I do, I do. So it’s not all bad.

  11. Savoy Brown Says:

They have turned off comments on their blog so we can’t even flame them… Karma can be a bitch…

  12. Billy Says:

C’mon Camberley, don’t you remember when, erm, ok, you win :-)

Scuse me, must go, checking out a thousand of Spike’s blogs looking for unattributed third party material ……

  13. Spike Says:

If it’s unattributed, how will you know that it is third party material?

  14. Qon Says:

contact their send them a DMCA and contact their webhost… they should cease & desist in short order

  15. Spike Says:

    Jock,
Yes; I got discount on a Bollywood actress.

  16. Pete Says:

Have you noticed that they’ve actually stolen this entry complaining about them stealing?

  17. wentworth Says:

Scuse me, must go, checking out a thousand of Spike’s blogs looking for unattributed third party material ……

Why bother, read these quotes instead.

“I pride myself on keeping up with the latest DVD releases which I enthusiastically steal by downloading them via torrents from the wide wide world of web”

“Unlikely to be showing in Pattaya, but there are ways of seeing it *cough*torrents*cough*”

“I download a rip of the DVD from the internet.”

“So I waited till it appeared in the DVD section, trotted off to Torrents, and have now watched it (alone).”

“A couple of weeks of torrent downloading”

“I used to hate Mondays; now I rather like them. First thing I do is head for the computer and start downloading the previous night’s Top Gear”

  18. wentworth Says:

I’ve actually downloaded next weeks “Pattayadays”
and it’s really quite good. The cement truck driver from the last series has died and is haunting the underground car park.

  19. Billy Says:

Thanks Wentworth, saved me the trawl … I am minded of the old saw that “those who come to (the Courts of) equity should come with clean hands”

  20. Spike Says:

    I don’t seek equity, I seek revenge.

  21. Wentworth Says:

    Spoken like, errr Steven Seagal.

  22. Spike Says:

I am delighted to report that sompost.com has disappeared from the wide wide world of web. Let that be a warning to others; there is no limit to the wrath of Spike.
